Happy Birthday America

Well today is May 3rd and that means its my oldest daughter’s 10th birthday! Hard to believe and a little depressing all at the same time. It just seems like yesterday that Kiersten arrived, a month early no less.
It’s amazing to look at Kiersten now growing into a beautiful young lady despite the challenges that she has been faced with. Kiersten has some special needs she has had to overcome and some that she still adjusts to on a daily basis. Her progress over the years has been simply amazing to watch. From having therapy 5 days a week to having to get shots to prevent seizures, she has dealt with each one in her own unique way.
As parents we are supposed to teach our children about life but Kiersten has had the opposite effect on Dan and I. She has taught us so much about life, facing challenges, looking at the beauty on the inside, living for the moment and just being happy. When we started our journey as parents with Kiersten, we thought we were on a specific path. We had no idea of what was in store. I’m not saying that a bad thing. It’s a lot like… you plan a trip to the Cayman Islands and you end up in Alaska. It’s still a beautiful place to be and definitely an adventure, just not quite what you had planned. : )
This Christmas we decided again to stay home in Virginia, just the 4 of us. It was really nice. We didn’t have a White Christmas but it was a great holiday nonetheless. We were so busy right up until Christmas, we barely noticed that there was no snow on the ground.
On Christmas Eve, the girls were in a Christmas Pageant at Church so we were busy with that. (more to come on that later)
On Christmas morning, Kiersten got us all up at the crack of dawn to let the entire house know that Santa had come to our house. The kids got everything they wanted and more. Becca got DS Games, Leapster Games, Littles Pet Shop and of course High School Musical stuff. Kiersten got DS Games, Clothes, Money, and High School Musical too. I have to say that the biggest hit of Christmas has been Guitar Hero. (Daddy got that one)
Christmas was really low-key and very relaxed. I really loved that instead of the usual craziness that insues at Christmas. Even though it was just the 4 of us, we decided to go ahead and make Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. Boy was it good!
Today we are just going to kick back and relax again today. I think we are going to head down to DC to go see some sites that we haven’t seen yet. I was going to go to the afterChristmas sales today but I’m really not in the mood to fight crowds at the malls. : )
Have a good one!
Tammy

We hope that each of you have a happy Thanksgiving Day!
