10 Ways to Annoy an Army Wife

May 09, 2008 By: Household6 Category: Uncategorized

1) As soon as you find out her husband is deployed take it upon yourself to tell her exactly how you feel about the war and how WE shouldn’t be over there.

2) Follow that up by asking how she feels about the President.

3) Look surprised and say, “I don’t know how you do it, I could never LET my husband do that.”
4) If she’s pregnant be sure and ask if the military is going to send her husband home for the birth.
5) Tell her she should really consider getting additional life insurance since her husband has a good chance of getting killed.
6) Remind her how lucky she is that her husband gets all that extra tax free money when he’s at war.
7) Try to relate to her by saying you know just how she feels because your husband was out of town on business for a week last month.
8 ) Ask her how she can be faithful for a whole year and if she worries about her husband cheating on her.
9) Inquire on whether or not her husband has killed anyone.
10) Be sure to ask her when her husband comes home, if he’s done with the military or if he has to go back.

10 ways to support military families…

May 08, 2008 By: Household6 Category: Helping Others, Military Family, Support the Family, Support the Troops, This and That

I recently got an email from a blog reader that said–

“Tammy, I’m not an military wife or mother but I want to support the families of our nation’s military. They give a lot too. What can I do?”
- Jenna C. (Dallas, TX)

First of all, thanks for your email and for wanting to support the families! There are lots of ways to support the military family. Here are some ways to help…

  1. Offer to help a local military family with babysitting, lawn maintenance ,etc.
  2. Send an email or letter of thanks through A Million Thanks
  3. Send a care package to a military family (don’t know one? Let me know and I’ll put you in contact with one)
  4. Organize an event in your own community, workplace, etc. Donate proceeds to a needy military family or a non-profit organization that helps military families in distress.
  5. Ask elected officials to recognize the sacrifices our military AND their families face every day! There currently is legislation being discussed in Congress to ease the burden on military families.
  6. Wear RED on Fridays in Support of the Troops and their Families
  7. Register your support at America Supports You!
  8. Ask Libraries, schools and other organizations to participate in recognizing our armed forces, military spouses and especially the military kids!
  9. Ask your local media (tv/radio/print) to recognize Military Families
  10. When you see/meet a military spouse , shake their hand and say “thank you for serving our country” For spouses are the silent ranks of the military and have the hardest job in the military!

Of course, its important to support our troops overseas and stateside. They have an extremely difficult job and sometimes require the ultimate sacrifice. It is also equally important to support the families, for theree sacrifice is just as great as the troops!

Mrs Munson Goes to Washington

May 08, 2008 By: Household6 Category: FRG, MilSpouse, Support the Family, Support the Troops, Tammy

I know you’re probably saying “Tammy you live in the Metro Wash DC area!! Whats the big deal?” Well this time I’m went to the WHITE HOUSE! Yes on Tuesday May 6, your resident Household6 (ME) headed up to the White House to attend a Military Spouse event with the President and have breakfast with Phil Vassar.

I went with a bunch of other spouses from the Walter Reed AMC area so it should be a lot of fun! Most of them were spouses of Wounded Warriors so it was really cool to talk with them. I even bought something new for the occasion. (Don’t worry Danny Boy I didn’t spend a ton)

I was supposed to go to this event last year but couldn’t get on the final list. Well, this year I was bound and determined!! I actually went there in a dual role - representing Walter Reed Medical Center Brigade as well as my gig for Military.com (DC Installation Ambassador) We had a fantastic time. I was so excited I was even sending text messaging from the White House South Lawn! Of course in true “Tammy style” I left my nice digital camera on my kitchen table, so I had to use my camera on my cell phone. I’ll try to get pictures as many pictures as I can and post them here on the blog in the next day or two.

It was an amazing time and I got to meet a lot of amazing spouses. The best was that I got to meet Secretary Geren, GEN Cody, Secretary Gates, Phil Vassar AND President George W Bush. (Yes my life is now complete! LOL )

There were also a lot of spouses there I knew but I was really excited to see many of the bloggers over at SpouseBuzz! (Hey Toad/AWTM - don’t forget to send me a copy of my picture of GEN Cody)

It really was a great day and I think it was definitely the highlight of my Army Wife adventure thus far. I was hoping to get a coin of some sort but came up short on that one. It’s my goal for next time!!

Stay Tuned! Don’t forget Military Spouse Appreciation Day is Friday, May 9th. We’ll have a BIG announcement about a project I’ve been working on.

MILITARY SPOUSE DAY, 2008

- - - - - - -

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

Military spouses embody the courage, nobility of duty, and love of country that inspire every American. On Military Spouse Day, we pay tribute to the husbands and wives who support their spouses in America’s Armed Forces during times of war and peace.

The legacy of military spouses began when colonial Americans were fighting for independence. Martha Washington boosted the morale of her husband’s troops by visiting battlefields and tending to the wounded. Since then, members of our Armed Forces have served our Nation accompanied by the steadfast love and support of their spouses and families. Read the rest of this entry →

Your Army Wife Story?

May 02, 2008 By: Household6 Category: Army Tales, MilSpouse, Their Story

I was reading over at SpouseBuzz about how they recently had Katherine Fugate, creator of Army Wives, and they opened a thread to create your own storyline for Army Wives.

So I got to thinking about this…. what would I want to see? Full disclosure - I’m not a big fan of Army Wives but I’ve only watched a couple of episodes. I think if they made it “more real” and less Hollywood it would be a better show.

I think that a good story line would be a wife who is thrown into Army life when her husband decides to enlist in his early 30’s. She’s been a civilian wife/mom for almost 8 years at this point.

Another one would be a wife who has a child with special needs and they could show all the trials and tribulations of Tricare and the health care system.

And my final idea, feature a woman who met a solider while deployed due to a picture and an introduction. They soon became romantically involved and she was thrown head first into Army life. (this is my friend’s story)

In case you’re wondering I’m living #1 and #2. : )

So what’s your thoughts, ideas on creating your own story line? I’ll be sure to pass them along to the powers that be at Lifetime.

Less Communication is a Big Adjustment

April 07, 2008 By: Tishia Category: This and That, Tishia

It’s been awhile since I posted my introduction. My goal was to write on here once a week but I didn’t exactly start that goal out on the right foot! So anyways, I’m back to make a quick post.

Lately I’m having a harder time with this whole deployment thing than I did in the beginning. I don’t know that it’s specifically the deployment thing, I think it’s more the little communication that has recently had to happen. I understand why our communication is limited right now and I know it has to be this way but it’s hard to get used to.

I got pretty spoiled with all the emails and all the instant message conversations Seth and I used to have. To go from having quite a bit of communication to having next to none is a big adjustment and one that is going to take some getting used to. And I’ve found that with less communication comes more worry.

The point of all my rambling? I’m having a hard time dealing with less communication.  I’m worrying more because I’m not communicating with him as often as we used to (well that and things are just plain bad over there). So I’ve come to the conclusion that I MUST find some things to do to occupy myself or I’m going to go crazy.

Brenda: A Military Wife

March 21, 2008 By: Household6 Category: Army Tales, MilSpouse, Military Family, Their Story

This story is about Brenda, a military wife and mother who was 100% committed to her military husband and extended military family.

Brenda and Tim married in June and 48 hours after saying, “I do”, he loaded up his canvas bag and left for Korea. A year later, he returned for two weeks and then was on a plane to Germany. This time Brenda was to have gone with him, but the paperwork (everyone in the military can groan together on this one) somehow didn’t get processed.

Once in Germany Tim did not give in until his bride was able to join him. During the next year in Germany Tim was in the field many times. Of course, everyone in the military can relate to the fact that this young couple spent more time apart than together.

I give Brenda a lot of credit for sticking with it and embracing military life; for standing by her man and by her country. Yes, they were young, but they believed in the old-fashioned ideals of the constitution. They were united in their convictions of protecting our land of the free. Then the call came that all young spouses of military personnel dread. Tim was getting deployed. Read the rest of this entry →

An Introduction

March 14, 2008 By: Tishia Category: This and That, Tishia

Hi I’m Tishia, friend of Tammy’s and proud Army girlfriend to Seth. When Tammy asked me to be a guest blogger here at Household6, I kind of laughed at the thought of it. I feel so unqualified to be writing anything about the military life because this is all so new to me! I’m learning as I go along and taking it one day at a time and I certainly still have so much to learn!

I suppose I should take a second and give a little background as to how I became introduced to the military life. Tammy actually plays a role in this because she is the one that introduced me to Seth.

It was a rather interesting way it all came about and some people call me crazy but I wouldn’t want it any other way, it’s our story and that makes it special! I think back to that Thursday night (I remember it like it was yesterday) sitting in Tammy’s online conference room and getting 7 card stud gratisstreap poker on linepoker texasstrip pokergambling pokerstreet poker gratisomaha holdgiochi seven card stud gratisbonus code party pokerscarica gioco poker, gioco poker, gioco poker da scaricarepoker gratuitogioco poker da scaricare gratisgiochi omaha pokerpoker da giocareholdem poker regolepoker su internet gratispoker superstars invitational tournamentscarica gioco pokerpoker non onlinepoker heads up onlinegiochi carte pokerstreap pokergiochi giochi onlinecome giocare pokercarte pokerpoker online downloadpoker texas holdem online, holdem poker on line, holdem poker onlineworld pokertexas holdem romabonus casino on net, casino on net, casino on net propone un bonusvincere alla roulette onlineroulette systemwww casino online comregole roulettegioco baccarat gratisstanze di gioco miglioricasino online comcasino online in italianobaccarat gratisgiochi casino da scaricareblack and jackvideo poker on line gratismetodo roulettegioco keno gratis in lineabest casino onlinecasino no depositplay casinowww casino netvideo poker per pc gratiscasino on line senza deposito on the subject of me being single . The next thing I knew his picture up and I’m looking at his gorgeous eyes and this great smile thinking wow he’s really cute. Not thinking anything of it, I went on and on about how cute he was and suddenly there was some virtual match making going on. And as the saying goes, the rest is history.

It’s been an interesting couple of months to say the least but I’m learning to embrace each and every day and to not expect anything except for the unexpected, if that makes any sense. That was one of the first things Tammy taught me and boy is that saying ever true!

I’m learning that I am a lot stronger of a woman than I gave myself credit for and I can certainly state the fact that it takes a special woman to be a soldier’s wife/girlfriend! It takes a lot out on us emotionally, more than a lot of people realize. And there seems to be a lot of negativity around me about the whole situation of building a relationship with Seth.

But I’m at the point in my life where the feelings I have for him and the feeling that this is the first ‘right’ thing in my life in a long time is all that matters. I’m not going to let other people’s thoughts and opinions dictate how I feel about him. Yes caring so strongly about a soldier isn’t the easiest relationship I’ve ever had but right now it’s exactly what I want and I’m not going anywhere!

So there you have it, a little about how I became a part of this crazy, wonderful military life.

I’ll be back soon!
