Mrs Munson Goes to Washington

May 08, 2008 By: Household6 Category: FRG, MilSpouse, Support the Family, Support the Troops, Tammy No Comments →

I know you’re probably saying “Tammy you live in the Metro Wash DC area!! Whats the big deal?” Well this time I’m went to the WHITE HOUSE! Yes on Tuesday May 6, your resident Household6 (ME) headed up to the White House to attend a Military Spouse event with the President and have breakfast with Phil Vassar.

I went with a bunch of other spouses from the Walter Reed AMC area so it should be a lot of fun! Most of them were spouses of Wounded Warriors so it was really cool to talk with them. I even bought something new for the occasion. (Don’t worry Danny Boy I didn’t spend a ton)

I was supposed to go to this event last year but couldn’t get on the final list. Well, this year I was bound and determined!! I actually went there in a dual role - representing Walter Reed Medical Center Brigade as well as my gig for Military.com (DC Installation Ambassador) We had a fantastic time. I was so excited I was even sending text messaging from the White House South Lawn! Of course in true “Tammy style” I left my nice digital camera on my kitchen table, so I had to use my camera on my cell phone. I’ll try to get pictures as many pictures as I can and post them here on the blog in the next day or two.

It was an amazing time and I got to meet a lot of amazing spouses. The best was that I got to meet Secretary Geren, GEN Cody, Secretary Gates, Phil Vassar AND President George W Bush. (Yes my life is now complete! LOL )

There were also a lot of spouses there I knew but I was really excited to see many of the bloggers over at SpouseBuzz! (Hey Toad/AWTM - don’t forget to send me a copy of my picture of GEN Cody)

It really was a great day and I think it was definitely the highlight of my Army Wife adventure thus far. I was hoping to get a coin of some sort but came up short on that one. It’s my goal for next time!!

Stay Tuned! Don’t forget Military Spouse Appreciation Day is Friday, May 9th. We’ll have a BIG announcement about a project I’ve been working on.

MILITARY SPOUSE DAY, 2008

- - - - - - -

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

Military spouses embody the courage, nobility of duty, and love of country that inspire every American. On Military Spouse Day, we pay tribute to the husbands and wives who support their spouses in America’s Armed Forces during times of war and peace.

The legacy of military spouses began when colonial Americans were fighting for independence. Martha Washington boosted the morale of her husband’s troops by visiting battlefields and tending to the wounded. Since then, members of our Armed Forces have served our Nation accompanied by the steadfast love and support of their spouses and families. (more…)

Bare Wall Syndrome

March 02, 2008 By: Household6 Category: Military Family, PCS Moves, Tammy 1 Comment →

I was sitting in a text chatroom the other morning listening to one of my favorite daily internet radio shows, Mom’s Morning Show. (hosted by my friends, Kelly McCausey and Tishia Lee) and the conversation turned to bare walls.

Bare walls are a constant issue for me, as most Army wives. Whenever we move to a new post, we get to make our walls all our own again. We walk into a house or apartment with those white bare walls and in a matter of days, we turn it into a home filled with pictures, our soldiers’ “me” wall, etc.

One way to help with the bare wall syndrome is each time we move to a new place we find something for our walls that represents our time in our new place. For example, from our time living in Minnesota we have a Caribou moose key holder. We also have the Texas Star from our time in Texas.

Now when no matter where we are I can look at our walls and remember people, places, and times in the different places that we have been. It also serves as a reminder of how we’ve grown as individuals but also have as a family.

Happy Birthday Household6!

Can you believe I’ve been blogging here at Household6 for 2 years now? Well actually it was February 23 2006 but I was very sick that day so no blogging occured.

So much has changed since then… our kids, us, Dan’s rank, our duty station, etc. Even the blog has changed.. from Blogger now here on Wordpress! I wonder what holds for us and the blog over the next 2 years and beyond… only time will tell. For we all know the saying, Expect the Unexpected!

It’s funny to go back and read some of my original posts and how little I knew about the Army back then. I was the one seeking out advice from those “more experienced” Army wives and now I’m giving out the advice. The Army has certainly given us an education over the last couple of years. Although, Dan has been in only since 2005, it still seems like yesterday I was seeking answers to PCS moves, Tricare, EFMP Resources, etc.

Our audience has also grown quite a bit over the last few years and I’ve met some wonderful friends, online and offline. I started out with 1 reader (me!) and now we’ve grown to over 150 readers including my hubby! Thank you!

So before I get too mushy and get my keyboard all wet… Happy Birthday Household 6!

Quick update…

August 25, 2007 By: Household6 Category: Our Clan, Tammy No Comments →

Sorry for going so long without an update but its been a little crazy here… Long story short Dan’s 1SG found out about the situation and made some calls to see what was going on and what needed to be done. Apparently, the office here in DC didn’t have a problem with the family moving with him but the command in Germany did. So 1SG is going to delete the orders and we’ll be staying here for a couple of years.

Well there ya have it.. just another story in our Army adventure!
