As you know, since I was going to LA for the Blogger’s Summit , that my girls were going to spend a couple of days with my good friend Tricia. So the other day, I headed out to meet so I could drop the kids off for the 3 days of FUN! The trip there was nice and we all had a great dinner together. Of course, we forgot to get pictures!! Next time I promise
However on the way home , my car (2003 Nissan Sentra) started to act really funky. If it got over 3,000 RPMs it just stopped! Yes that’s right completely stop on the highway where the speed limit was 75! Good thing I just happened to be on the cell phone with my husband at the time, because otherwise I would have freaked out! Thank goodness I was able to get it over to the shoulder.
So here I am in the middle of nowhere, thinking what the hell are we going to do ?? I go look at the engine and telling SGT Daddy what I see/don’t see (now we all know that I don’t have any clue what I’m looking at )
So I get back in the car (it was dark, cold and cars were flying by) and my husband says well try it again. Low and Behold it starts! I’m thinking … ok that was weird. The kicker is that it kept stopping every time I went over 3000 RPMs. So I had to drive really slow and took forever for me to get home.
We had just decided a couple of weeks ago to keep this car and not get a new one. Well I really can’t have an undependable car with SGT Daddy leaving for deployment in a few months, so we are going to have to get a new one! (so much for saving money)
So we are back in the world of looking at a new car/van/SUV… FUN! We are thinking we are going to get a Ford
Explorer . We’ve been really happy with Dan’s Ford SUV and quite honestly I’m impressed with that fact that Ford didn’t request bailout money! That speaks volumes to me!
Anyone have any suggestions on what to buy? Did you have trouble with your Ford ?
More to come on this… I’m sure!

Oh, I hate that! Darn cars… I hope that this works out well for you.
Definitely sounds like a transmission problem. I’d even venture to say a solenoid issue. I had something similar happen with a Saturn I had. We’re Nissan band loyal. We have a 2001 Sentra and 1999 Pathfinder both with over 120,000 miles on them and they’re still going strong (as I knock on wood). We’ve had good luck with Toyotas too. The American made cars we’ve owned have been our lemons. You’d have a hard time convincing me not to buy another Nissan or Toyota.
Congrats on deciding on a Ford. They are the best and far outlasted expectation for me. I love the Explorers in particular.
I completely understand, though. It is essential to have a reliable car on deployments.
Alishas last blog post..And I’m off…
We are still not sure what the problem is really… but Sgt Daddy thinks it might be a fuel injection problem. So we’ll see…
Either way, we’ll be getting a new vehicle sometime in April
That sucks. I know how annoying car problems are…seems to be every time I turn around I have issues related to vehicles. LOL
