Dear Kris,
I also did the Bank Acct. thing but went one step further, I am on all his accts in the Bank of America where I also have an acct and can transfer money in 1 second with no fee on line to his acct. and keep him from bouncing any checks or payments that were set up before he went in Also he signed a power of attorney over to me as he will be most of the time oversees. So we covered all the bases so he wouldn’t have to worry about anything and he hired me as his personal accountant So I pay his bills and tell him what he has a week to spend and he tells me what he wants to put aside in savings goal ect.. and as power of attorney I can just about go and fix any sneaky foul play I have been finding the credit card companies and cell phones and internet guys pulling in fines and extra add on services that he didn’t authorize because they notice he is in the service and hope he is to far away to take care of it, or bother to take care of it. Did you know that the Air Force has attorney’s and if a company is pulling foul play and you get an air force attorney to threaten them then they get scared because if they get black listed by the service then no branch of the service is allowed to do business with them. So they fix it very fast. We found that out with my sons Audi lease. But the power of attorney has come in very handy even for very small matters and small amounts. Because the banks think they can pull anything once the kids are in the service. But, yes, I advise any parent to get on the checking acct. with their child and for their child to call all the credit card co.s and fax them a letter giving permission for you to represent them also and keep a signed copy also of everything yourself.
